I just started tumblr today. This is a new concept. What’s a tumblr? To make a simple analogy: If blogs are journals, tumblelogs are scrapbooks. You can also look at tumblelogs as slightly more structured blogs that make it easier, faster, and more fun to post and share stuff you find or create. Is this just another fancy blog, only time will tell.

ajax im (”asynchronous javascript and xml instant messenger”) is a browser-based instant messaging client. It uses the XMLHTTPRequest object in JavaScript to send and receive commands to and from the server. No refreshing of the page is ever needed for this “web application” to work, as everything is updated in real-time via JavaScript.

Lighting 102: 3.3 - Balancing Flash/Ambient Indoors
When last we met, we talked about moving from the idea of balancing a nice, even, back-curtain of sunset light to dealing with a highly directional light source (and learning to use it rather than just fill it.) This week, we are taking it indoors to apply the same principles to light that is less directional, less intense and more diffuse.

Diffraction is an optical effect which can limit the total resolution of your photography no matter how many megapixels your camera may have. Ordinarily light travels in straight lines through uniform air, however it begins to disperse or "diffract" when squeezed through a small hole. This effect is normally negligible, but increases for very small apertures. Since photographers pursuing better sharpness use smaller apertures to achieve a greater depth of field, at some aperture the softening effects of diffraction offset any gain in sharpness due to better depth of field.
Convert Color Digital Images into Black and White
With the proliferation of digital photography, people have now started to look at ways to recreate what film has done for them, including recreating a black and white photo. There are numerous ways to make a digital black and white, some include: 1. In camera filter - By changing a setting in the camera menu to take a black and white photo. Essentially this is a built-in color de-saturation method that removes the color information after the camera takes the picture. I won’t be covering this method in this article. Pros: Easy, simple and does not require any knowledge or post processing to create a black and white photo. Cons: Limits the contrast and dynamic range of the photos. In my personal experience, leaves the photo looking washed out or flat.
