These are Nikon D3 samples from SportsShooter by Dave Einsel.Everything was shot on Fine JPEG. There are two of each image. The first is the untouched file directly from the camera. The second is cropped and adjusted in Levels for purposes of the test. No Sharpening. No Color Balance changes. The crops are without resizing. The third pair shows a frame I underexposed partly by mistake and partly because of a “no light” area on the field. It was shot at 1000th at f/2.8 at ISO 3200. The image didn’t fall apart when lightened A LOT in Levels. These images are simply amazing.I think Nikon just got really tired of seeing all those Canon lenses lined up on the fields of different sports arenas.

Magnificent Surrounds

The class gathered about 9:00 A.M. in the morning and we hit the trail about 10 A.M. heading out to St. Mary's Basilica in Covington, KY. It's one of the most beautiful churches not only in Covington but in the entire Cincy area.

Diffraction & Photography

Diffraction is an optical effect which can limit the total resolution of your photography no matter how many megapixels your camera may have. Ordinarily light travels in straight lines through uniform air, however it begins to disperse or "diffract" when squeezed through a small hole. This effect is normally negligible, but increases for very small apertures. Since photographers pursuing better sharpness use smaller apertures to achieve a greater depth of field, at some aperture the softening effects of diffraction offset any gain in sharpness due to better depth of field.

Convert Color Digital Images into Black and White

With the proliferation of digital photography, people have now started to look at ways to recreate what film has done for them, including recreating a black and white photo. There are numerous ways to make a digital black and white, some include: 1. In camera filter - By changing a setting in the camera menu to take a black and white photo. Essentially this is a built-in color de-saturation method that removes the color information after the camera takes the picture. I won’t be covering this method in this article. Pros: Easy, simple and does not require any knowledge or post processing to create a black and white photo. Cons: Limits the contrast and dynamic range of the photos. In my personal experience, leaves the photo looking washed out or flat.
