Nikon D300 sample from France
This is nikon D300 sample from photo exhibition in Paris, France by focusphoto.
Photographer has 4 (ISO 800,1600,3200) images in his blog. All the Nikon D300 sample images show poor quality due to pre-production firmware. I can see those yellow patches over dark areas, and the very gritty noise pattern. No big improvement over 800-1600 ISO on the D2X. NR was set to Normal for the four shots.
Samples look soft due to Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens, the High ISO NR (normal), camera movement or Sharpness=3 (0-9 possible). Looking at all of the settings involved, we can come to conclusion that these are all “grab shots”, not done with a good understanding of how to optimize any in-camera settings.”Grab Shots” means the person just picks up the camera and starts shooting with little regard to set up. The Sportshooter pictures were a better example of what the Nikon D300 is capable of. A little thought actually went into setting the camera up for shooting. We can blame lack of detail on Jpeg, low-sharpening value set in camera, high ISO and NR. Shooting Jpeg with low sharpening won’t allow to recover actual detail as shooting RAW would allow, because the data isn’t there on the Jpeg.
