Nikon D300 Sample from high school football
This is Nikon D300 sample from high school football (USA) by sports shooter Dave Einsel. These are pretty amazing and clean images for such high ISOs in real life situations. According to the photographer, the camera worked pretty well. The drive is quick enough for most things and the auto focus was good with a 400/2.8. The higher ISO files were a bit noisy but still quite good considering they are at ISO 3200 and 6400. Nikon changed a few buttons and functions around from the D200 and the new LCD screen is very nice.
Above image very basic Neat Image, applied edge sharpening and then downsized for posting. Anyone who’s ever photographed red uniforms in low light/high ISO settings should recognize that these are good real life samples of a very tough shooting scenario. Yeah, they’re not as stunning as the D3 shots, but they are really good for maintaining color with low chroma noise and little evidence of hard to get rid of luminance noise.

[update 10/10/2007 12:00 PM CST] The D300 appears to be a really good step forward from the D200. Actually, it blows the D200 away in every catagory. As it should. Nikon has moved a couple of buttons in the back that make the camera more functional. The display is big and brilliant. The two most obvious improvements are with noise at higher ISO’s and auto focus. Both of those performed very well during the testing. All of the pictures posted were made with a Nikon 400mm f/2.8 lens.
